Federally Approved Electronic Court Reporting and Transcriptions

Electronic Court reporting has been utilized for over twenty-five 
years in the federal court system. Features of Electronic 
Court Reporting include:

• Equipment Monitoring
  The electronic recording equipment is monitored at all times by trained
  Notary Publics who also make basic notes regarding the proceedings.
  
  
• Speaker Isolation
  Each speaker is recorded with a separate microphone onto one of four tracks
  on a cassette tape.
  
  
• Tape Overlap
  Proceedings need not stop to change tapes; the electronic recording equipment
  automatically changes tapes with an overlap for ultimate protection.
  
  
• Speaker Overlaps
  Since the equipment has captured each voice clearly on
  separate tracks on the electronic tape, there is no need
  to stop the proceedings when two parties overlap in speaking.
  
  
• Stopping of Proceedings
  The recorder rarely stops the speakers to instruct them to slow
  down their speech due to accent or medical or technical terminology. The recording
  device will capture the words as spoken. Then in transcription the tape
  can be reviewed several times to insure accuracy.

  Copies of the actual proceeding are available on cassette tapes.
  
  
• Diskettes
  Transcripts are available on diskettes.
