The Perils of Living Online
and How to Avoid Them
Living online is quite different then merely checking one's e-mail
regularly and occasionally surfing the net. When one works and plays
online continuously, it becomes a world unto itself. Living online needs
to be balanced by a counterpoint in physical reality. If not, bad things
can happen. We know young boys and girls are susceptible to being molded,
but so are many adults who are at loose ends. If, as I contend, ultimately
most of us will be living online, then we had better study this phenomena
and draw up strategies to cope.
In this talk we discuss the problem and develop a strategy to cope
by way of "lifelines" as they will be called.
This talk draws on new material first revealed in George's book: AOL
BY GEORGE! The Inside Story of America Online.
